What really happened to Anastasia Romanov?
Anastasia Romanov thought she would never feel more alone than when the gunfire started and her family began to fall around her. Surely the bullets would come for her next. But they didn't. Instead, two gnarled old hands reached for her. When she wakes up she discovers that she is in the ancient hut of the witch Baba Yaga, and that some things are worse than being dead.

In modern-day Chicago, Anne doesn't know much about Russian history. She is more concerned about getting into a good collegeuntil the dreams start. She is somewhere else. She is someone else. And she is sharing a small room with a very old woman. The vivid dreams startle her, but not until a handsome stranger offers to explain them does she realize her life is going to change forever. She is the only one who can save Anastasia. But, Anastasia is having her own dreams…

I had no idea what this book was going to be about. The only reason I even know about this book is because Makayla gave me the second book! She obviously was not aware that it was the second book, but either way I had to read the first one! Luckily for me, my mom has a Scribid account, so I was able to read this book for free!
I haven't read any books based off Russia/set in Russia, besides "Shadow and Bone" by Leigh Bardugo. This book was nothing like that though, but it was still such an interesting story! There were a lot of different elements that made it fun for me. You have the mystery, the fairytale, and the complex characters. I gave "Dreaming Anastasia" 3.5 out of 5 stars!
Even though I liked this book a lot, it was a bit cheesy. The main love interest has, what I like to call, fan-fiction eyes. Anne, the main character, and her friend Tess refer to his "crystal" or "sapphire" blue eyes an absurd amount of times, and that got old really quick! The cheesiness didn't completely kill the story for me though because it was mostly just the dialogue and things like that. The story also felt a bit cluttered at times because of all the different elements, even though the complexity of the story was what made it interesting. I felt like somethings were not really essential to the story at all. They just ended up providing you with way to much unnecessary information and distracting you from the real plot.
Overall, this was a fun, quick read! I recommend it to anybody with an interest in Tsar Russia and the mystery of Anastastia Romanov!
