My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick is a heart-warming story about family, love, and discovering your true self. Samantha Reed is a senator’s daughter, a friend, a younger sister, but most of all, she’s the girl who watches her neighbors from her roof every evening. Samantha admires the Garretts. The family is everything her’s is not. While the Reed’s are ‘perfect’ and tend to ‘color inside the lines’, the Garrett’s are a scribbled page. Mr. and Mrs. Garrett are still in love after however many years of marriage, which is not something that Samantha is accustomed to seeing. They also have 8 children, all of the unique in their own way. There’s Joel, Alice, Jase, Andy, Duff, Harry, George, and Patsy. Samantha has watched them play in their yard or listen to the muffled discussions that travel through their walls for years. Her clean-freak mother, Senator Grace Reed, hates the Garrett’s and their untidiness and inferred irresponsibility. Her mother’s dislike does not stop Samantha from falling for Jase Garrett the moment he climbs up to her secret watching place. If you are captivated by sweet and hilarious contemporary novels, I highly recommend My Life Next Door to you.
